Books, Babies, and Blogs: Contemporary American Women Writing Motherhood
Posted on January 29, 2006
Dr. Lisa Hammond Rashley, Associate Professor of English at University of South Carolina at Lancaster, to speak at Macon State College.
Books, Babies, and Blogs
Placing her discussion in the context of women and mothers who have written in traditional literary forms, Dr. Rashley will discuss how the rise of weblogs or blogs has made visible a wildly prolific group of American mothers and writers. Through an analysis of Webrings like Dot Moms, Mommy Bloggers, and Crazy Hip Blog Mamas, Rashley will consider questions such as:
- How do we value women’s writing, and what do we consider “literary”
- How does the immediacy of writing a brief blog entry daily affect the shaping of a work into a book?
- How does the genre of the memoir translate to an online environment?
- How do women incorporate their experiences as women into the literary establishment?
